ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CPOS

Risk and Threat Assessment

  • Conduct Risk Assessments: Evaluate potential threats, vulnerabilities, and risks associated with the client, locations, or specific activities.
  • Identify Security Weaknesses: Analyse and identify security weaknesses in the client’s routine, travel plans, and locations, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Adapt to Dynamic Situations: Continuously assess and adapt to changing environments and potential threats in real-time.

Planning and Preparation

  • Route Planning: Develop secure travel routes for the client, identifying safe pathways and emergency alternatives to minimise exposure to risk.
  • Venue Reconnaissance: Visit and inspect venues and locations in advance of the client’s arrival to ensure they are safe and secure.
  • Contingency Planning: Prepare for various scenarios, including emergency evacuation plans, medical emergencies, and immediate responses to potential threats.
  • Coordination with Local Authorities: Liaise with law enforcement or security personnel at venues and locations to ensure coordinated protection efforts.

Personal Protection

  • Physical Security: Provide physical protection to the client at all times, maintaining close proximity to intervene quickly in case of a threat.
  • Crowd Control: Manage and control crowds or aggressive individuals who might pose a risk to the client’s safety, especially in public settings.
  • Emergency Response: Respond immediately to any threats, attacks, or emergencies, ensuring the client is moved to safety quickly and efficiently.
  • Preventive Measures: Continuously monitor the environment to detect suspicious activity or potential threats, taking preventive actions when necessary.

Secure Transportation

  • Escort and Secure Travel: Safely transport the client to and from destinations, ensuring secure transportation via well-planned routes.
  • Driving Duties: In some cases, the CPO may also be the driver, ensuring the vehicle is secure, performing routine checks, and being ready to take evasive action if necessary.
  • Protection During Transit: Maintain a high level of security while the client is traveling, both domestically and internationally, including handling luggage and securing private jets or vehicles.

Communication and Liaison

  • Constant Communication: Maintain regular communication with the client and any other security personnel to keep them informed of risks, changes in plans, or ongoing security concerns.
  • Liaison with Other Security Teams: Work alongside or coordinate with other security professionals, such as residential security teams, venue security staff, and law enforcement officers.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Ensure that all personal and professional information related to the client remains confidential.

Intelligence Gathering

  • Situational Awareness: Gather intelligence related to the client’s surroundings, potential threats, or changes in risk factors.
  • Research Threats: Stay informed about any potential threats or changes in the client’s risk profile, such as public events, business decisions, or media exposure.
  • Surveillance Detection: Detect and counter any surveillance or tracking attempts by third parties that may be targeting the client.

First Aid and Medical Assistance

  • Medical Preparedness: Be trained in basic first aid and emergency medical procedures to provide immediate assistance in case of an injury, medical emergency, or attack.
  • Crisis Management: Provide a calm and controlled response in the event of a crisis, ensuring the client’s safety and well-being until professional medical help arrives.

Discretion and Professionalism

  • Discreet Protection: Provide protection in a discreet manner, ensuring that the client’s privacy is respected while keeping a low profile.
  • Client Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the client’s personal life, business dealings, and security measures.
  • Non-Intrusive Presence: Blend into the client’s surroundings without drawing unnecessary attention, allowing the client to carry on with their day-to-day activities without disruption.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Incident Reporting: Document and report any security incidents or breaches to the client or their organisation, including details about how the situation was handled and recommendations for future security.
  • Daily Logs: Maintain daily logs of activities, security measures taken, and any incidents that occurred during the protection period.
  • Continuous Improvement: Provide feedback on current protection protocols and suggest improvements based on evolving threats and security challenges.
