Gurkhas Take Regimented Stance For Wiltshire Security Role

Posted on: 07 Sep 2011

A group of former Gurkhas is bringing military style precision to a construction site in Wiltshire.

The nine-strong group is employed by Octavian Security to help protect the new housing development at the site of the former Canadian Barracks at Bulford Camp, Wiltshire. Having previously served together in the Gurkhas Regiment, the men have decided to utilise the same regimental structure to ensure that their new security role goes smoothly.

As well as using the same order of command, with former Regimental Sergeant Major Gyan Limbu taking on the role of supervisor, the group also has a strict fitness regime, regularly running to and from work - a 55-minute journey each way.

Commenting on the structure, Gyan, who also worked for the Sultan of Brunei's Security Forces after retiring from the Regiment, said:

"As is the case with all Armed Forces, the Gurkhas Regiment has a very clear structure which helps to maintain order and discipline, whilst also ensuring operational efficiency. With all of us having military backgrounds it made sense to implement a similar structure.

"As well as working together, we also share a rented house, so it's important that everyone has a clear role to make sure everything gets done."

Jot Engelbrecht, chief operating officer at Octavian Security added: "Gyan and his team are doing an impressive job in Wiltshire. It has been fascinating to watch the group work together and bring military style organisation and efficiency to their security role.

"Both the company and the client have been impressed with their professionalism, dedication and tenacity for the job in hand."

Octavian Security regularly employees former Gurkhas for security work across a variety of sectors, including blue chip companies, public sector organisations and major events.

The company famously hit the headlines in 2006 by dramatically reducing car crime at Giltbrook Retail Park in Nottinghamshire by employing a team of former Gurkhas to patrol the car park.
