UK SECURITY EXPERT ELECTED CHAIR OF US NATIONAL SECURITY BOARD

The owner and founder of Octavian Security, Sukhi Ghuman, has been elected as chair of the Homeland Security Foundation of America (HSFA).

The HSFA is a not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of public safety, energy, health and human services initiatives across the USA, with the ultimate aim of advancing homeland security and preserving civil liberties.

Ghuman was elected for the post after impressing the HSFA board, which comprises ex-military, law enforcement and security professionals, with his strong commitment to the organisation since joining in 2011.

During this period, he has given great input into existing initiatives, and has introduced his own pilot scheme to improve US port security.

In his new role, Ghuman will be assisting HSFA president, Eric V Brown in communicating the work of the HSFA to the broader public safety, energy, health and human service sectors, and seeking further engagement with business, government and the general public.

Ghuman, who first entered the US security market with his business Octavian Security USA in 2010, says of his new role:

"The USA is an innvovator in commerce, industry and security and it takes no lesser approach to its homeland security.

"It is a great honour for me to be on the board, let alone be elected chair, and I hope to continue to draw on my nine years of international security expertise to expand on the crucial  work of the HSFA."

Octavian Security USA, Ghuman's US security operation, is already mirroring the success of its UK sister company, working in the fields of event, leisure, property and industrial security. And in a similar vein, and in addition to his work with the HSFA, Ghuman is looking to mirror his own philanthropic work in the UK with the Gurkhas, by looking at ways in which Octavian USA can work with USMC veterans.

Eric V Brown, president of the HSFA, said of the organisation's new chair:

"Sukhi is a doer, he has taken his unique security brand around the world with great determination, and this is just the type of individual that we need at the helm of the HSFA, someone who will not falter in driving forwards multi-sector initiatives that will work to keep this nation safe, fair and prosperous."

Octavian USA was established in 2010 by Sukhi and business partner Sam Sangha. In the UK, Octavian has been providing security and facilities management services to blue chip companies, public sector organisations and major events for eight years. Sukhi now splits his time equally between the UK and the USA.
